Immigration to Austria: Remarkeable increase in family reunification – Regierung erhöht Quote für legale Zuwanderer aus Non-EU-Ländern

Remarkeable increase in family reunification – More seasonal workers also possible Vienna
The government has increased the immigration quota in its recent Council of Ministers. This emerges from the so-called Settlement Ordinance, which was introduced by Minister of the Interior Herbert Kickl (FPÖ) on Wednesday and adopted by the government. Accordingly, 6,120 quota places are reserved for immigrants from non-EU countries this year. In the previous year, there were just over 5,800. The places in the area of family reunification (for third-country nationals) have increased significantly, namely by 200 to 5,220. This is explained by the government by the fact that in some cases (for example, in the case of artists) a hitherto quota-free family reunification was legally converted into a quota-based family reunification and one wanted to avoid a shortage of the quota. The second largest group in the Settlement Ordinance is Privatiers, for which 445 seats have been reserved. A maximum of 4,500 seasonal subscribers: The seasonal subscribers have exactly 4,000 quota places planned, as in 2017. However, it is noted that the maximum can be raised to a maximum of 4,500 if there is a need for an increase during the year 2018. The maximum number of harvest workers is to remain unchanged at 600. Not affected by the regulation are EU citizens and asylum seekers as well as highly qualified persons who come to Austria via the Red-White-Red card. The latter group accounted for about 1,800 people in 2016. In the previous year, too, the number is likely to be roughly in this range.
